Please introduce yourself in 3 sentences:
I’m Matthieu Meneuvrier, a perfumer, entrepreneur, and founder of Maison Matthieu Meneuvrier. I grew up in the South of France surrounded by aromatic plants, raw materials, and a family passion for perfumed plants, which naturally led me into perfumery. Today, I create fragrances as part of a scented wardrobe, inspired by the seasons and designed to capture texture, colour, and atmosphere.
How do you create your fragrances?
My creations are often driven by the atmosphere of a season, as well as the textures and colours I imagine accompanying a garment. I usually start with the fragrance family or the structural backbone of the composition, then select ingredients that help me interpret nuances of texture, colour symbolism, and emotion. For me, fragrance is a way of completing an aesthetic vision.
Any perfumer, artist, or person you’d like to collaborate with on a fragrance?
There are many. I feel deeply connected to different forms of artistic expression - painting, music, photography, cinema, architecture, and gastronomy. I have explored many of these disciplines myself because they help me develop a richer vocabulary and a deeper understanding of how we perceive and model reality. Any collaboration with a creator who has a strong personal universe would be exciting.
Favourite ingredient / aroma?
It changes constantly. Last year I was fascinated by iris, especially its powdery elegance, as well as amber and musk notes. At the moment, I am particularly interested in a jasmine essence developed by a friend who created his own extraction process. I find it fascinating because it reveals new facets of the flower, and I am looking forward to exploring its possibilities in future creations.
If you weren’t in the fragrance industry, which industry would you like to be in?
That is a difficult question because I am curious about almost everything. If I had several lives, I would probably explore them all. What fascinates me is not a specific industry, but the creative process itself and the different ways people transform ideas, materials, and emotions into something meaningful.
Any upcoming project or launch you want to share?
I am focused on continuing to build Maison Matthieu Meneuvrier and exploring new ways to connect fragrance with other creative disciplines. There are several exciting projects currently in development, and autumn may see the launch of two new fragrances. They are still evolving, but I am excited about the worlds, textures, and emotions they will bring to the collection.
Tune of the Day: The City - Notre Dame: I identify strongly with this track because I come from a very rural environment, yet over time I fell in love with great cities. Travelling, discovering new places, and meeting people from different backgrounds has expanded my world enormously. Cities have enriched my relationship with art, culture, and creativity, while still allowing me to maintain a connection to where I come from.
The track has an emotional electronic energy that I love. It captures something I often seek in fragrance as well: movement, contrast, and atmosphere.
Fragrance of the Day: Douce Insolence by Maison Matthieu Meneuvrier: a contemporary fougère dressed in shades of blue and violet, inspired by linen textures, spring flowers, and the promise of Mediterranean summers.
